University of Vocational Technology

University of Vocational Technology formally known as the National Institute of Technical Education Sri lanka (NITESL) was established by the Sri Lankan government by the Act No.31 of 2008 of the University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC) passed on September 09,2008.

The University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC) was ceremonially declared open by His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, the president of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, on the 31st of March 2009 at 10.00am at No. 100, Kandawala , Ratmalana.

Hon. Piyasena Gamage, Minister of Vocational and Technical Training, Hon. Dayahritha Thisera, Minister of Skills Development, Hon. P. Radhakrishnan, Deputy Minister of Vocational and Technical Training, several other ministers, Prof. Kapila Gunasekera, Vice Chancellor, of the UNIVOTEC, Mr. K.A.H Kalugampitiya, Director General of UNIVOTEC, and heads of the institutions under the purview of the Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training also participated in the inaugural ceremony.

Mission
The mission of the University of Vocational Technology is
  • to provide services in human resources, curriculum,learning resources development, research and consultancy
  • to achieve professional excellence with ethical rectitude and
  • to liaise with global TVET sector, academic community and Industry
Objectives
The general objective of the Univotec is to provide progressive upward movement to the students in the technical education and vocational training system, based on their aptitudes and abilities, to acquire university education.
The specific objectives of the Univotec are:
  1. to provide pedagogical training up to degree level for trainers serving in the technical    and vocational education sector and industry
  2. to provide courses of study for middle level technical personnel, with qualifications acceptable for admission to Univotec, up to degree level, and
  3. to provide courses of study for those with National Vocational Qualifications to upgrade their competencies and acquire a degree level qualifications
  4. To provide extension courses on continuous professional development.

  1. Faculty of Training Technology to provide pedagogical training upto degree level for trainers.
  2. Faculty of Industrial & Vocational Technology to provide degree level courses of study for middle level technical personnel

Our IT lecturer is Mr. C. Edirisooriya is a Civil Engineer and he was studied at the University of Moratuwa Sri Lanka. In additionally 
At present he is working at the Road Development Authority under the Ministry of Highways.
